Don't give up; keep on keeping on

The poor widow represents many around us who have needs beyond their reach. They often cry out to us. May we be the listening ears and open hearts to help others who cannot help themselves.

Impertinence towards Disease

Jesus came to save us and to heal us now, individually, and as worshipers of him and his Heavenly Father. Jesus died on a cross to remind us of his gift of new life for us.

Heavenly hope

Evangelism is a way of bringing spiritual healing to others, just as medicine brings physical healing. Both produce positive and measurable results if they are effective. Christ calls to his heavenly realm. We need to accept his call.

No delays

Commitment versus delay becomes the challenge of daily life. Are we really committed to bring the love and forgiveness of Christ to the world, or is it too inconvenient? How can we turn our lives towards the work of God in our world? And, having sought and been given forgiveness, will we respond to Christ’s call to us with renewed vigor?

Christ can heal the mind

Jesus encounters a person with a severe mental disability and heals him. Issues of medical illness manifest in novel ways: schizophrenic personalities have different immunological characters creating entities somewhat like the biblcal 'demons'. Alzheimer's and other mental illnesses become large challenges for society but need the particular attention of the church.

Now fMRI could be far far less evasive than SPECT. SPECT and fMRI both can show brain "function" fMRI (functional MRI, magnetic resonance imaging) utilizes the BOLD or "blood oxygen level dependent" contrast mechanism. There is no injection needed unless other MRI scans are being done. Brain "activity" is determined by looking for signal intensity changes that are correlated to relative metabolic need for oxygen. In general fMRI is not yet used clinically as much as it is for research. SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) utilizes a radioactively labeled chemical tracer. The tracer is injected and accumulates in body tissue. Depending on the exact tracer the amount of "counts" detected from the anatomy corresponds to the amount of metabolism and access (perfusion) to the given tissue. Other options depending on what doctors are looking for include PET and MEG.
